LEGAL PRIVACY NOTICE & COMPLIANCE DISCLOSURE

Privacy Policy

Effective Date: August 31, 2026 Last Updated: August 31, 2026 Version 2.0

🛡️ Executive Summary (Privacy-By-Design)

At GoShareTheJourney, we believe that your personal memories, travel routes, photos, and videos belong exclusively to you. Our applications (including JourneyLog and associated utilities) operate on a 100% on-device architecture. We do not operate backend servers to receive, collect, store, profile, track, or sell your personal data or media assets.

1. Data Controller & Contact Information

This Privacy Policy applies to all mobile applications, desktop software, web tools, and services provided by GoShareTheJourney ("we", "us", or "our"), including our flagship mobile application JourneyLog.

For questions, legal notices, or inquiries concerning this policy, you may contact our designated data compliance officer at:

Entity: GoShareTheJourney

Contact Email: support@gosharethejourney.com

2. 100% Client-Side Processing Architecture

Our applications are designed with strict data isolation principles:

  • No Cloud Media Storage: Your photos, video clips, captions, and travel notes are stored exclusively in your device's internal storage sandbox or SQLite database. They are never uploaded to any remote server owned or controlled by us.
  • Local Computation: All algorithms—including EXIF timestamp extraction, GPS route matching, video encoding, 300 DPI vector PDF assembly, and scrapbook layout customization—execute entirely on your device's local CPU/GPU.
  • No User Accounts: You are not required to create an account, register an email address, or log in to use our core features.

3. Information We Do Not Collect

We want to be unambiguous regarding what data we do not gather:

  • We do not collect or store your GPS route coordinates, waypoints, or speed data.
  • We do not upload, view, scan, or process your personal photo library or videos remotely.
  • We do not use facial recognition, biometric identification, or content-scanning telemetry.
  • We do not collect names, phone numbers, physical addresses, or contact lists.
  • We do not sell, rent, monetize, or trade your data with data brokers or advertising exchanges.

4. Device Permissions & Purpose of Use

To deliver travel tracking and scrapbook capabilities, our mobile applications may request the following operating system permissions:

A. Location Access (Foreground & Background GPS)

Purpose: When you initiate a live journey recording, the application utilizes your device's GPS hardware to trace your geographic path. If enabled, background tracking allows continuous recording while your screen is off.
Handling: All coordinate points are stored directly into your device's local database. They are never transmitted over the internet to us or any analytics entity.

B. Photo Library & Camera Access

Purpose: Used to permit you to select photos for scrapbook pages and read local EXIF capture timestamps to match images against your recorded GPS path.
Handling: The app only accesses media you explicitly select or scan locally. No background media harvesting occurs, and no photos leave your device.

C. Storage / Photo Library Save Permissions

Purpose: Required to write generated 300 DPI vector PDF photobooks and MP4 video files directly into your photo gallery or chosen local folder.

5. Third-Party Network Services & Map Tiles

To display maps and compute road geometries, the application communicates directly from your device with third-party geospatial providers (such as OpenStreetMap, CARTO, or OSRM):

  • Map Tile Queries: The app sends standard HTTPS GET queries containing only the map bounding box coordinates required to download visual map images to render on screen.
  • Zero Personal Data Attached: No user identity, media files, device serial numbers, or persistent identifiers are appended to these network queries.
  • App Store & Google Play Purchases: If you purchase premium features or subscriptions, billing transactions are processed directly by Apple Inc. (App Store) or Google LLC (Google Play) in accordance with their respective privacy policies. We do not store or process your credit card or financial information.

6. No Tracking, No Ad Networks, No Telemetry

Our applications contain zero third-party advertising SDKs, zero behavior-tracking pixels, and zero cross-app identifier tracking (such as Apple's IDFA or Google's Advertising ID). We do not profile your usage habits or sell audience segments.

7. Data Retention, Export, & Deletion Rights

Because all information resides locally on your hardware, you possess complete, autonomous control:

  • Deletion: You can delete any individual photo, stop, page, or entire journey at any time from within the app.
  • Full Erase: Clearing the application's storage in your device settings or uninstalling the app permanently and immediately destroys all local databases and cached frames.
  • Export: You can export your data anytime into standard open formats (PDF, MP4, GPX).

8. Regulatory Compliance (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, CalOPPA)

Under the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA):

  • Data Minimization: We adhere to strict data minimization; we collect zero non-essential personal data.
  • Right to Know & Access: Since we store no user data on our servers, there is no remote database to query or retrieve.
  • "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information": We do not sell, share, or monetize any user information.

9. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR-K)

Our software does not knowingly collect, solicit, or maintain personal information from children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in the European Union). Because no personal information is transmitted to servers, our apps are safe for general family audiences.

10. Policy Modifications & Direct Inquiries

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to accommodate software additions or evolving legal standards. Any revisions will be published on this page with an updated Effective Date.
