Roots & Rings Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms & Eligibility

By downloading, installing, or using the Roots & Rings mobile application (formerly BabyJourney, package namespace com.gosharethejourney.familyjourney) or related services provided by GoShareTheJourney® ("we", "us", or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms") and our Roots & Rings Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree to these Terms, do not install or use the software. You represent that you are an adult parent, legal guardian, or authorized family member capable of entering into a binding agreement.

2. 100% Family Media Ownership & Zero Server Rendering

You and your family retain sole, unconditional copyright and ownership of all content created, recorded, or imported into Roots & Rings. This includes all baby photographs, ultrasound scans, pregnancy belly bump progression photos, audio recordings of first words or laughs, journal entries, and customized scrapbook layouts.

• Zero Server Rendering: Roots & Rings executes 100% of its computational rendering, GLSL shaders, milestone scrapbook layouts, and 300 DPI vector PDF photobook generation directly on your device's processor and GPU. There are no remote rendering servers, cloud rendering pipelines, or external processing queues.
• 100% Saved and Stored on the App: All your family albums, entries, and metadata are saved locally within the app's sandboxed SQLite database on your device. We do not operate cloud databases and never copy, ingest, or store your photos or family records on any server.
• No License Grant to Us: Because Roots & Rings operates 100% locally on your device with zero server processing, you do not grant GoShareTheJourney® any license, transfer, or right to use, view, copy, publish, or distribute your family memories.
• User Responsibility: You represent that you possess the necessary rights and family permissions for all photographs, audio clips, and lineage records you import or create.

3. Studio Intellectual Property & Limited License

All rights, title, and interest in and to Roots & Rings—including the compiled code, OpenGL/GLSL 3D page curl shaders, interactive family tree algorithms, infinite canvas UI, vector photobook templates, stickers, decorative borders, typography, and trademarks—remain the exclusive property of GoShareTheJourney®.

GoShareTheJourney® grants you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to download and execute Roots & Rings on your personal mobile devices for private, non-commercial family memory keeping.

4. Acceptable Use & Restrictions

You agree that you will not, directly or indirectly:

• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code or proprietary shaders of Roots & Rings.
• Extract, sublicense, sell, or commercially redistribute Roots & Rings’ proprietary scrapbook vector templates, themes, or stickers.
• Use the software for any unlawful, deceptive, or infringing purposes.

6. Zero Server Rendering, Local Wi-Fi Sharing, & Exported Photobooks

Roots & Rings enables you to export high-resolution vector printable PDFs, milestone greeting cards, and MP4 video recaps. All exported files are compiled strictly on-device using local hardware acceleration, with zero server rendering. Roots & Rings also provides direct device-to-device local Wi-Fi sharing protected by an ephemeral 4-digit PIN. When you export or share these files with family members, or third-party platforms:

• Local Storage & Backup Responsibility: Because all family data is stored exclusively inside the app on your device and never on our servers, you are responsible for maintaining device backups (such as encrypted Apple iCloud or Android system backups) or exporting printable photobooks to external storage.
• Local Wi-Fi Transfers: Wi-Fi transfers are executed point-to-point over your local network and are not transmitted to any external server. You are responsible for ensuring that only authorized recipients have access to the transfer PIN.
• Privacy & Consent: You are solely responsible for ensuring the privacy and consent of everyone depicted in shared media.
• Third Parties: GoShareTheJourney® has no control over or liability for third-party messaging apps, social networks, or cloud providers with which you choose to share your files.

7. Purchases & Store Billing Terms

If Roots & Rings offers optional premium sticker packs, decorative themes, or one-time feature unlocks:

• Billing Management: All transactions and payment processing are managed directly by Apple Inc. (Apple App Store) or Google LLC (Google Play Store).
• Refunds: Refund requests must be handled through the respective platform store according to Apple or Google customer refund guidelines.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties ("AS IS")

Legal Disclaimer

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ROOTS & RINGS IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. GOSHARETHEJOURNEY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT OPERATION OF THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.

9. Limitation of Liability

Liability Cap

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL GOSHARETHEJOURNEY, ITS DEVELOPERS, OR OFFICERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES—INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, CORRUPTED EXPORTS, DEVICE HARDWARE ISSUES, OR UNINTENDED THIRD-PARTY SHARING—ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF ROOTS & RINGS. OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT ACTUALLY PAID BY YOU FOR THE APP, OR FIFTY US DOLLARS ($50.00 USD), WHICHEVER IS LESS.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless GoShareTheJourney® from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, or costs arising out of: (a) your use of Roots & Rings; (b) any media, audio, or content imported or shared by you; or (c) your breach of these Terms.

11. Governing Law & Severability

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the applicable jurisdiction, without regard to conflicts of law principles. If any provision of these Terms is deemed unlawful or unenforceable, that provision shall be severable without affecting the validity of the remaining provisions.

12. Modifications to Terms & Contact

We reserve the right to revise these Terms at any time. Any revisions will take effect upon posting with an updated Effective Date. Your continued use of Roots & Rings following updates indicates acceptance of the revised Terms.
